Granny and baby group - would your Mum go?

Wasn't sure where to post this, but....

If there was such a thing as Granny and Baby Groups (like Mum and baby groups, but for Grannies), do you think your Mum would want to go?

Just wondering because my Dad died last year and am trying to think of things my Mum would enjoy doing. The normal things for women her age don't really float her boat, but she would like to meet other women her age and she does love having fun with her grandbaby!

there are a lot of grannies who child-mind their grandkids, so I think it could be popular.

There is a "gransnet" section, you could maybe try asking there as well, in case they have "parenting" hidden.

They could go on organised trips and stuff, not just always sit in a room necessarily.

I think that's a great idea.

Also I think there's quite a few families ho would appreciate it too. We've got the ILs staying just now and when they picked dd up from nursery her little friend said "I wish I had a Grandma and Grandpa".

my mum has always taken my 2 to playgroups, tumbletots, swim classes etc when she looked after them for me, she says there are always afew grannies there to chat to, ( my dad even takes dd2 to a under 5's drama goup and loves it - might be because of the 2 young blond drama students who runit of course

TheArmadillo · 23/06/2008 17:15

my mum has always taken ds to groups. She's rarely the only grandparent there.

hertsnessex · 23/06/2008 17:16

my mum would rather have hot pokers in her eyes - but that also goes for looking after the kids anyway!!!

MrsTittleMouse · 23/06/2008 17:23

My Mum would love it, but she doesn't live near us, so she doesn't look after DD on a regular basis.

pointydog · 23/06/2008 17:24

My mum woulnd't.

youcannotbeserious · 23/06/2008 17:24

My mum would be first in there.

Not sure I would want her too, but she would.

eenybeeny · 23/06/2008 17:25

I go to mother and child groups and there are always grannies there and they are very welcome and socialise with everyone!

Astrophe · 23/06/2008 17:28

Think there are 4 Grans at our Toddlers group. If there was a specific Grandmas group, and we lived near my Mum, I suspect she would like to go.

Wafflesnaffler · 23/06/2008 17:33

Oh great well it's nice to know some other grannies might like it. I might try and start something up then because I think it would be a better opportunity for her and other women to make new friends than just going along to a Mums' group (where she'd always be the exception rather than the rule if you see what I mean).
