Toddler is a biter at nursery!

DD (2.5) is a prolific biter/hitter at home and now at nursery!

She seems to go through phases where she will bite every day at nursery and then not do it for a few weeks. Apparently there doesn’t seem to be any identifiable triggers or patterns.

At home it’s usually out of frustration or excitement. We do a firm “no biting. That hurts” and remove her from the situation quickly until she calms down. She is very quick to say sorry and cuddle afterwards.

It’s becoming a real problem at nursery though and I think some bites have been really nasty.

I would love to hear from anyone who has also had a prolific biter at a similar age and any ways you found best to deal with it / get past the phase?

Im getting really worried she will lose her nursery place and also worrying I’ve done something really wrong to cause this!

I don’t think you’ve been doing anything wrong. She’s so little still and lots of DC do bite. Have the Nursery said that she may lose her place?

What steps have the nursery put in for her? She may need some more support there.

If it’s sensory seeking she may need something to bite. Look at Chewellry Chew Buddy or similar

She won’t have any concept of sorry at this age other than knowing the word.
