Could this mark on my toddler be a bruise or something else?

Anyone know what this could be on my toddler ?
just noticed it this morning, I know he did hurt one of his sides yesterday can’t remember which one 🧐. But it’s not like a normal bruise if it was that ?

How old is he? It does look like a nasty bruise. What kind of injury was sustained?
Did you not seek him medical attention?
Given the location and extent of the “bruising”, I’d try to get an urgent GP appointment or go to urgent care, just to rule out any rib fractures.

Is he fine within himself? No signs of pain or discomfort?

It looks like a birthmark but if it wasn't their before then I don't know if they can just appear. It doesn't look like bruising. Hopefully someone more medical or knowledgeable will come along and help.

He is 2 and a half , he definitely did not require medical attention , and definitely hasn’t done any damage , he is absolutely fine 🙂. I don’t actually know what he done I ran through to the kitchen to get him a drink and he came through and said he hurt it on something. I’ve never seen him have a bruise that’s skin coloured that’s why I’m unsure if it is a bruise or something else.

If he said he hurt it then its a bruise

ToKittyornottoKitty · 08/05/2026 19:36

So he told you he hurt himself and you don’t know what on…. How can you be so certain it’s not work someone looking at it? What could he have hurt it on?

Its a bruise if he was moving fine after why on earth would she take him to get checked out. He's a toddler if everyone took their toddlers to be checked everytime they got a bruise the nhs would be in a worse state then it is now

stichguru · 08/05/2026 19:41

Not medical at all, but to me it looks like he's pressed into it with something for a period of time. So not like a bruise from a fall, collision or strike, but more something sustained. Do you have a table or counter at that height that he might have lent over to play/colour on for example? That would also explain why it was vaguely sore but not a certain knock with a direct "oww".

Has he been outside with no top on? I have a birthmark on my leg that is only visible in the summer - I don't need a tan, it just darkens with the sun

This

ita a bruise - he said he hurt his side

Luna2711 · 08/05/2026 19:49

I don’t have anything with sharp edges etc in my living room he has 2 scooters and a cosy coupe car in there he was playing with them at the time so could potentially be one of them. He didn’t cry at the time I was only gone a few seconds so couldn’t have been pressed into anything as such maybe just fell into something ? I just can’t remember if that was the side he hurt or not , I assume it must be and putting 2 and 2 together would be a bruise but like I said I’ve just never see him have a bruise that colour before so I’m just a bit worried

It’s jus a line marking of what he hurt his side on

zingally · 09/05/2026 17:49

If he's generally himself today, and not in discomfort, then it's just a bruise from whatever he stumbled onto yesterday. I think if he'd done something genuinely nasty, like broken a rib, you'd know about it. Rib fractures are surprisingly painful. Does he react significantly if you press on it?
Just monitor it.

It could be dirt; it could have arisen from the tiniest bump.

He isn't making a fuss so unlikely to be an issue. See what happens over the next few days.

What does pregnancy testing have to do with this thread. The approach seems as ott as posting about a potential bruise.

yeah I know I meant to create a seperate post , but can’t figure out how to delete it ??

Thank you so much for everyone’s replies. He is absolutely fine not complaining about or not his usual self. I guess it must be a bruise. I will keep an eye on it

The cosy coupe door is probably about that height on him, wonder if he's been leaning on it a bit hard.
