Call from head teacher

My child has been bullied for around 18 months by the same child. A new child recently joined the school and my child’s behaviour has become very dysregulated and there have been several incidents between them both. Today I got a call from the headteacher stating my child had been unkind to the new child amongst other things. She then also mentioned she had heard that my child is going to be leaving the school and had been telling other children. My child will be leaving their current school by the end of the week and will be moving to a different school I’ve explained this to the head teacher and sent them a de registration letter. We’ve had enough of it all but the head teacher
told me they take bullying seriously and hope my child won’t move. A bit too late really!! I’m baffled as to why they would say this…. Any clues or is it just a formality??

Yeah, that would annoy me too. After 18 months, it really does feel like “too little, too late.”

What the headteacher said is likely just formality and a bit of damage control, schools often say they take bullying seriously and hope families stay, especially when a child is leaving. It doesn’t necessarily reflect what’s actually been done.

You’re doing the right thing putting your child first. A fresh start sounds well deserved.

Thank you for this, it’s made me feel like we’ve made the best decision for our child and us. I did think that might be the case. It’s always been an horrendous school and glad to be done with it!
