Baby Preston Davey - Content warning concerns CSA (added by MNHQ)

I’ve just read about baby Preston Davey and I cannot stop thinking about him. I have a 13-month-old of my own, which is probably why this has hit me so hard — I can really relate and my baby is my everything.
I’m crying as I write this. Why does it hurt so much for a baby I’ve never even met? Has anyone else felt this way?
How do you cope with the negative thoughts that follow when you read something like this? 💙

Thank you toast.

Is Preston’s mum really sharing things about him on tik tok? I can’t see anything only random people taking about him.

Yes, but she’d make her account private the last time I looked.

I also wonder how much she saw of him.

Its common within adoption to be encouraged not to see family and friends for a period after placement, and then when you do see them you are encouraged not to allow them to do any care. My family went on training from social care where they were told about not to expect to change nappies etc, and to allow us to meet the care needs

Obviously not all families stick to it, and as a previous poster pointed out its potentially one of the things that leaves new families vulnerable to depression etc. You suddenly have all the adjustment you get with a new born but with a walking talking toddler and are encouraged to hibernate, limit your family interactions and not have people help with child care. You get regular visits that feel like judgement from social care, have to report every bump and are constantly aware of the fact they arent legally yours yet and can be removed (often while birth parents are actively apealing the orders). Its probably also why the adopters had strong reactions to phone monitoring on this thread, because its often your main connection to sanity!

Whats concerning for me about this case is the fact that Preston was seen, by all acounts the protocols were followed and he was seen by at least the family, social worker, independent social worker, another safeguarding person on the ward, all the medics and staff on the three a and e trips, and fracture clinic doctors. Its not surprising that the grandmother also fell to the same conclusion to me either

Edited

Varley’s mother looked after Preston a lot as far as I recall. JV and JMF left Preston with her and JV’s stepdad the morning of Preston’s death until 2pm, when they went to see a mortgage advisor.

I’m surprised we haven’t heard anything from her during the trial, not even recordings from her police interviews. I think there’s only been that comment that was witnessed by someone at the hospital, about how Preston’s death wouldn’t have happened on her watch.

I guess there must be a reason, like both the defence and prosecution don’t think she’ll be helpful to their case? But I’d have thought it would be important to know what state Preston was in that day, and whether the injuries to his bottom were noticeable at the time.

Looks like the jury will be sent to deliberate very shortly.

toastofthetown · 11/06/2026 12:52

The jury have now retired to consider the verdicts. I’m not jealous of them. It must have been a horrid trial to be chosen for.

ByRoseBiscuit · 11/06/2026 12:56

Definitely feel for the jury. It feels
horrendous enough with the level of detail we have seen, for them it must be awful. I hope the right outcome is reached and there is some justice for that poor little baby

ItsPickleRick · 11/06/2026 13:26

I am praying for the correct verdict to be reached and some form of justice for Preston.

impartialusername · 11/06/2026 14:42

life in prison won’t be enough for these barbaric animals.
I pray the jury reach the correct verdict but I have little faith in jury’s. Too much of the time a smoking gun is needed.
I recently attended a show called ‘murder trial tonight’ where the audience were the jury and was sad to see an 85% not guilty verdict for a trial that evidence proved guilt! And the sad ‘aw’ sounds when the audience realised he was guilty. It’s human nature to want to see the good in people. We see it with other cases all the time.
I just hope the jury sees sense here. Even if the abuse can’t be proven it’s certainly proven they were neglectful and cruel to the poor baby and that deserves punishment. Although it won’t ever be enough for what poor Preston went through.

Jury in Blackpool Preston Davey baby murder trial retire to consider a verdict

The video on this page, the interview with cop. I'm amazed they've put that online before verdict.

Disappeared now they obviously realised their error.

The jury lost two jurors at the beginning of the week “due to medical or family reasons” - just hope they don’t lose any more while deliberating or the whole trial will collapse.

I saw it. Truly heartbreaking that a baby so young can look so broken.
I hope the media give this story maximum exposure after verdict / sentencing.

Baby Preston was taken to hospital three times with injuries before he was murdered. Each time the staff believed the "parents". I can't get my head around that and I'm surprised more hasn't been said about it.

Me neither.
When my ds was a few months old I took him to hospital with a fever, from the car straight into the hospital and the nurse went off on one because he wasn’t wearing a coat (he was wrapped in a blanket from the car to the hospital and was too hot to be in a coat anyway) of course the real issue was me being 16 and she said we had “slipped through a net” cue her making a malicious report to social services.

I am not sure how these sick men got away with taking him to the hospital covered in bruises numerous times in the space of weeks. Because they were older and considered more respectable? Or fear of being called homophobic? From what I’ve read Varley was a master manipulator and as well as being a teacher he was also head of safeguarding so would have known all the right things to say.
Varley also posted himself abusing Preston on the dark web under the name “the pedagogue” meaning a rigid overbearing teacher. The dark web group he was in was full of sick fucks with similar jobs where they have access to children.

I hold largely progressive views but in cases such as these I would absolutely support castration along with a life sentence with no parole. In solitary confinement.

I think death sentence in this case and I’m not usually one for supporting the death sentence. I’m not sure what the point in castration would be Preston was adopted

SB1967 · 11/06/2026 20:52

I reckon Varley craves death at this moment. Would absolutely snatch your hand off.

I think this is the most depraved case of child abuse I’ve ever heard it sickens me he is still alive and will continue to be alive. When in most other countries he would be killed. Preston is dead while this pice of shit still walks the earth.

Huntley and Watkins both got 'street' justice. This one will be a very major target.
It's the worst for many many years if guilty.

Was that mentioned in the trial? Posting to the dark web?
