Pinwheel vs Qustodio

DS will be 11 in June. He currently has a Nokia brick to text/call me when he’s walking to school and back but I’m considering getting him a more up-to-date phone for his birthday however, I’m absolutely petrified by the thought of social media/whatsapp becoming accessible to him. I currently have Qustodio installed on my children’s iPads and think really highly of it; I’ve been looking for reviews of whether this is enough to keep a phone secure for a tech savvy child and Pinwheel Phones keep coming up. I am the least tech savvy person and it’s all become a bit ‘information overload’. Does anyone have any experiences they could share to help me decide?

Hi. Dd (13) has had a pinwheel for a few months now. She is happy because it looks like a normal smartphone so doesn’t stand out. So far so good from my perspective. Total control over apps, contacts etc and no open browser. The only problem we have run into so far is difficulty sms messaging iPhone users (think it’s a problem with some iphones.
