Taking baby to a concert

How likely is it I'll get hassle on the door? Venue is the 02 arena.

Childcare is proving tricky - and I'd really like to go for personal reasons. Plan is to have him in a sling - where I expect him to spend the whole time bf and sleeping.

It won't be excessively loud - but I'll put a hat on him to muffle it even further.

How likely is it I'll get hassle on the door? Nothing in the T&C prohibiting children - just general statements about ensuring they're not a nuisance or exposed to inappropriate material.

I don't want to phone to ask -I think they might say 'no' just because that's the easier answer to give by phone.

Open air classical is one thing, enclosed amplified music is a no no. Out of the question it will damage your child's ear long term and probably hurt their ears.
I'm afraid you miss the concert!

I took dd to her first (very loud, rock concert) at age 5, I think that was about the right age.

Kif - I am a musician and my DS has been going to mine and other peoples concerts all his life. Since he was tiny.

He has these giant ear protectors, when you put them on you honestly cannot hear anything, very, very muffled, quiet sound. They are expensive but I wouldn't take him without them.

They are very good, as they get older you can remove layers from the inside (they are labelled to age) so they can hear more, but still very protected.

Make sure you stay at the back if you can't get into a safer, VIP area, get in last and leave first.

Oh - and I don't know who your 'scouts' are, but I can tell you now, the o2 arena will be loud, even for an acoustic set it is loud.

Personally, I don't think I would take a baby to a gig unless I was in a separate safe area, but if you want to I don't see that it is a major safety issue. Just be aware.

I probably wouldn't take a baby to an arena gig tbh. I did take my eldest into the concert hall for a gig at 8 months, but it wasn't loud, he was fast asleep, & we only stayed half an hour (Whitby Goth Weekend).

(hijack - can you link to the ear protectors DSM? We could use them for dh's gigs as the kids get older...)

DirtySexyMummy · 24/06/2008 22:21

Yep - I didn't get them online but I will google the name and link to them if I can.

DirtySexyMummy · 24/06/2008 22:23

DirtySexyMummy · 24/06/2008 22:24

They weren't bloody 15 3 years ago when I bought them.

www.amazon.co.uk/PELTOR-GREEN-DEFENDERS-PR0TECTORS-UPGRADED/dp/B0014DAH3W/ref=pd_sxp_f_pt we used these on our 6month old...they were excellent and very comfy

Christ, pay for a babysitter, it will only cost as much as a pair of ear protectors. Surely then you can enjoy the night without the worry. And your baby can be at home getting sleep, where he/she should be! Bonkers!

wolfrunner · 27/06/2008 21:11

oh dear..i'm planning to go to the 02...i'm performing my poetry there. i had thought it'd be okay to go just for my slot, and get my 8 mo old some ear plugs. i think people are being a little harsh here.... it honestly hadn't occurred to me that a baby in a sling would be a problem. i wouldn't go anywhere near the crowded part or anywhere where i could get trapped. oh no.. judging by these messages i will have to abort mission.

iamrhys · 20/01/2009 17:14

this is so ridiculous. i took my 8month baby to a small theater rock gig a month ago and he loved it. he was in a sling with cotton wool in his ears and it was just fine. it was quite loud and lots of lights, and he loved it. lots of colour and interesting things to look at. dont worry about what everyone else thinks - if you feel your baby will enjoy it then take him. if you feel he may be troubled then don't. he's your baby, you know him best. take ear protection, and clean nappies. don't get drunk and don't do drugs. you should be ok.
