Leaking Pull Ups Overnight

My just turned 3 year old sons been potty trained since the summer, we’ve had absolutely no issues with this, never has any accidents and is self sufficient with using the bathroom but he wee’s ALOT over night, we’re not even close to being dry during the night and that’s fine as I know that’s a hormone that needs to kick it (we’ve had a handful of dry nights but mostly he’s always wet) the issue is he wee’s so much his pull ups leak. He wakes up wet and I’m having to change and wash his sheets a fair bit. We’ve tried loads of different pull ups including the night time ones and so far the best we’ve found are Sainsbury’s but even then he can still wake up and has leaks. Other than limiting his water intake which I’m not a fan of doing (if he’s thirsty, I’m going to let him have water) I’m not sure what we can do. Are there any brands that you swear by that hold a lot? We’ve tried, mamia, Fred and Flo, Huggies night pants, Ocado and Sainsbury’s (trying to avoid the expensive brand but will if they work) or is there a reusable pant that can be used?

What size are you using? Often if they’re leaking it’s because they’re too big.

Bpod1 · 18/04/2026 23:09

Is he a front sleeper? I found my son's nappy and pull ups leaked when he slept on his front. I had to resort to sticking an extra pad inside to help absorb the wee.

7, it’s right for his age and weight and 6 is definitely too small now!

Yes he is! Mostly he’s on his tummy or side, what pads did you use?

@NixieDust I used ordinary sanitary towels or incontinence pads, whichever were cheaper and just stuck it in lol. I tried every nappy first but they all leaked. Sticking the pads inside the nappy or pull up saved so much washing. I got this advice from another forum as no one I knew had kids who preferred to sleep on their front

NixieDust · 18/04/2026 23:25

@Bpod1 ah amazing thank you! I’ll give this a try tomorrow night!

Double wee before bed. Wee, pyjamas on, teeth, last wee etc

Devilsmommy · 19/04/2026 01:24

Mines exactly the same and wears a size 7. I find the pampers premium protection pants hold the most

Bpod1 · 21/04/2026 18:20

@NixieDustdid it work for him?

NixieDust · 21/04/2026 18:26

@Bpod1 he didn’t like it 🙄 very particular and saw it and refused to have it in his nappy so 😂 didn’t get very far!

Aww that's a shame. I hope you find something that works for you

lemondropsandchimneytops · 21/04/2026 18:39

I find that pull ups leak at night but same brand of tab nappies don't. We use Pampers premium. She's mostly dry at night now and she went through a short spell of not wanting her nappy on at night so we tabbed it together and put it on like pull ups before fixing it. Do you think he'd let you try that?

Foodylicious · 21/04/2026 19:03

I can see you said you tried Sainsbury's, but did you try the 6+?
Much more absorbant than the 6.
We used to use cheap pull ups in the day and these at night.

Also, have you tried putting a pull up on over the nappy?
I think for a while we did (before finding the 6+) this as it made an early morning change easier.
Just pull the pull up down a bit, nappy off, the pull up back up again.

NixieDust · 21/04/2026 19:07

@Foodylicious we used to use the + and he was fine but now he’s in size 7 + stops! Quite annoying 🤣 he’s in the pull ups at night and fully trained in the day but maybe it’d be an idea to try a nappy again and pop the pull ups over!

@lemondropsandchimneytops ooo now that’s worth a try!!!! Thank you! He is in a tabbed nappy for nursery naps and he doesn’t complain so I’ll give that a go!

ThatJadeHam · 22/04/2026 18:48

Would you consider reusable or double up on the nappy

NixieDust · 22/04/2026 21:58

@ThatJadeHamabsolutely! I have been looking at some reusable ones but really unsure of what ones would work. We doubled up the nappy last night and we had no leaks! So doing the same again tonight 🤞🏻

@lemondropsandchimneytops we tried the nappy with a pull up on over last night and it was a success! No more tabbed nappies left though so need to purchase more so he’s in double pull ups tonight

Bringing them for a sleepy wee before you go to bed works wonders too!
