Advice on split nights and naps for my nearly two year old

Hi everyone,

just wanted advice on my little girls sleep patterns.. she’s 2 in a few days and we’re still having split nights. There seems to be bit of a pattern, she will have 4/5 nights where she sleeps through the night and then on the next night she will have a split night where she’s awake for 2 hours around 2/3am. She usually has a 1.5 hour nap in the day which I usually have to wake her up from, I feel she would sleep longer. I can’t tell whether she’s overtired or undertired. On her good night sleeps she will go to bed between 7/7.30pm and wake up around 6am which is great. But we’re having at least one split night a week and can’t tell what the problem is.

TIA :)

Undertired. Cut the nap to 1 hour. Mine is 18 months and we usually cap at 45 mins.

I'd try dropping or cutting the nap and see if that helps the nights.

Yep bye bye nap.

If she's awake but not distressed, then split nights are usually because they are under tired. You could shorten the nap, but the other option is to push bedtime back slightly. If she's only having a split night once or twice a week, pushing bedtime back by 15-30 minutes might be enough.

Mine is the same age, and is trying to drop the nap altogether!

Currently wakes 6.45-7am
Nap (maybe) for 30mins to 1h15 max (I wake them up at that point)
Asleep around 8pm if napped or 7.15 if no nap.

I think you should try more awake time in the evening or cut the nap short and see how that goes for a week.
