Newborn skin problems

My 4 week old lo has baby acne pretty badly on his cheeks, scalp and tops of shoulders/chest along with dry skin and cradle cap all on his forehead and eyebrows. It's all red underneath the cradle cap and looks a mess and so flaky. I took him to the GP today who just advised to moisturise 3-4 times a day and go back in a week if no better.

I've just been bathing him in water up to now but was thinking of adding a little oilatum junior maybe and then moisturiser. I have Aveeno dermexa and cetraben, I asked the doctor which moisturiser to use and he just said any 🤷‍♀️. Any advice on creams or anything that people have used? I am also wary of making the spots worse if pores get clogged.

Just to reassure you my baby had the absolute worst baby acne. It got worse and worse and I was tearing my hair out! Around 3 months it started clearing up and since then his skin has been perfect. I didn’t do anything to make it clear up (although I would have tried anything as it was really horrid to look at).
