Pram and car seat advice

Car seat and pram advice!!

My baby is five months old. His car seat is working fine in the car but something is jammed when putting it onto pram wheels.
I find putting the car seat on super useful when in and out of shops and when he’s asleep! So I think I need a new car seat?

Also, my pram was given to me by a friend which was great but I find the sun is always in his eyes. It’s pretty dated- she had it in 2019

soo I’m thinking do I just bite the bullet and get a new travel system? Or will it be a complete waste of money.
how do you find strollers as they get older?
should I bother getting a new car seat when it works perfectly fine in the car?
at what age did you stop putting the car seat onto pram wheels?

thank you!

I stopped putting the car seat on the pram at about 2 months. Surely they'll be too squished and uncomfortable soon?

I'm impressed you can still lift the car seat to put it on the pram, given baby's weight by now 🤣 you must have arms of steel!

Regardless, your baby will start being more alert and curious and want to look around more so stick to the pram. I would not pay for a new travel system at this age.

A travel pram that is light and folds and unfolds with one hand is probably your answer for the shopping trips etc.

I bought my son a doona trike at 12 months which he LOVES as he can see all around and we still have the light travel pram.

I would get a stroller that fully lays back by now. You don't need a pram, just a fully reclinable stroller. You might as well get something light weight and umbrella folding which will be easier once little one is walking.

I don’t think I used the car seat in the pram from about 3-4 months. I think you just need to bite the bullet and start using the actual seat. I wouldn’t buy a whole new car seat to use for another month or so, at most.

If it's jammed have a look at it when empty and see what's stopping it from clicking into place, it could be the adapters rather than the car seat itself and it might be fixable. Do be aware most car seat manuals say not to use WD40 or other lubricants on them as you obviously don't want to compromise any of the attachments which attach it to the car. Even if you're not intending to touch those areas I'd probably be quite stringent with this advice, just in case.

To be honest, young babies aren’t supposed to be in car seats for extended periods of time anyway as it can restrict their airway. And up until 6 months, they should really be lay quite flat. So, either in a bassinet, or - as others have suggested - a fully-reclinable pram seat.

In terms of the sun in their eyes, have a look at SnoozeShades.
