Has anyone else noticed changes in their child around age eight?

Did anyone’s children change a little when they got to around 8?

I’ve noticed it a lot more because it’s been Easter holidays. But lately my 8 year old just wants to either watch YouTube, play games on her iPad or Nintendo or EAT CRAP.

i am struggling a little as I have a baby too and justifying her not having lots of screen time when I’m knee deep in the teething trenches is hard. She has put on a little weight, seems moody etc. she said the other day her arm pits smelt.

im worried she’s very dopamine obsessed and as much as i try to encourage outdoor play and arts and crafts she just gets the hump. She just wants to be doing something 24/7 that is exciting. I just am concerned that her brain is so young still but also don’t know what to do with this new stage of her.

How old is the baby? Could it be the shift in family life rather than her age? Although it does sound like it could be hormonal with the change in smell etc

@ToKittyornottoKitty hello. Baby is 6 months. It could be I have thought about that a lot. But it’s more that she seems alot more older than she is all of a sudden. It feels a bit like moody teenager but she’s still so young. I don’t remember feeling hormonal until around 10. Just wish I knew what to do with her. We have lots of time together, I take her out just us 2 a lot but I feel like it’s never enough.

Mine!
8 year-old DD and 8 month-old DD.
Eldest is 9 in June and she’s 100% heading into puberty. We’ve had to buy her a gentle deodorant, the cropped vest/starter bras, she wants her Amazon tablet or a snack in her hand 24/7. The incessant chattering over the Easter holidays has been killing off my brain cells 😂
The clocks going forward haven’t helped, 8-9pm is the new bedtime so I can’t wait for routine again next week.

At 8 she could be starting to go in to puberty, it can happen quite young for girls. My two started their period at 10.5/11 and puberty will start around 2 years before that.
At around 8/9 mine wanted crop tops instead of bras, got a bit more interested in clothes. If she is starting to get BO you can get her a gentle deodorant and let her choose some nice shower gel and make sure she has a bath/shower every day - mine did need this by about your DDs age or they would get smelly!
Do keep encouraging her to get outside and be active though and limit her screen time with screen time restrictions

Hi @xOlive @user2848502016 thanks my shoulders dropped massively after I read your replies! I was getting so worried this morning. I’m definitely going to have some more talks with her about it all. I just find it so wild it can start this young. She is my baby in so many ways still and so innocent but this side of her I don’t know what to do 😵‍💫 I’ve always been a really chilled parent and she’s always been such a good girl but I’m going to have to step it up a notch.

Same with mine!
I didn’t hit puberty until I was 13 so this has really shocked me.
Its a whole new learning curve, I’ve never Googled so much 😂 but it’s definitely puberty as she was genuinely such an angel before this. The constant hunger, she’s put a little bit of chub on, she loves going outside but then one bug and she’s screaming back inside on her tablet.
