Child still has high fever after six days

DS has had cold/flu symptoms for 8 days now. On approx day 2 he became unwell with a fever. We are now on day 6 and fever is still there. It comes down with calpol/ibuprofen but requires both of them to bring it down and he does perk up when his fever is down.

I took him to out of hours a few days ago but due to no improvement and being on day 5 of fever I took him to the GP this morning who prescribed antibiotics for possible tonsilitis, but he wasn't entirely convinced. His tonsils were enlarged but they tend to always be, no pus filled spots, and he isn't complaining of a sore throat.

However this evening his temp is reaching almost 40, the highest it has been. I'm worried now that his fever has lasted so long. I have sent myself down a rabbit hole worrying about kawasaki disease, as his eyes are slightly bloodshot and he did initially have sore/cracked upper lip but the lip has resolved now?

I think I am going to take him back to the GP in the morning.

You can always give 111 a call amd see what they say BUT if you are worried then take him to A&E

Is he weeing? Drinking? Playing like normal? How old is he?

Sorry, he is 4.

He is weeing and drinking. He will play for a bit like normal when temp is down but then goes back to sleeping/lying on the sofa which isn't like him at all.
