DS1 is 2.9yrs and DS2 is 7mths. I am so so tired. DS2 is teething and both are playing up. HAve finally managed to get DS2 to sleep (he sleeps very little) and have left DS1 to watch CBeebies whilst I try and do some much needed housework. AM I a bad mum? I am totally knackered! HAven't done any painting, etc with DS2 for days (that could be weeks actually). EVen though he goes to nursery 3 morns a week and playgroups on the days he doenst, I do feel that I should do some constructive play with him at home, but lately am just too tired to do it...

Good god woman - no you are not a bad mum!! Cbeebies is made for times like this when you are knackered and have other small babies to look after - I thank the heavens for cbeebies. I haven't done any painting etc with dd for weeks - have 5 month old uber demanding baby! DD gets to do messy play at playgroup - I do things like go for walks with her, read to her, put on cbeebies....

Like you say, you're having a hard patch and you are very tired. Don't worry about it. The paints can come out when things are a little easier. Don't think it will have a huge impact on DS life choices if he watches a lot of Cbeebies for a couple of days. Cbeebies is very nice and calming with no age inappropriate programmes. Go easy on yourself.

Handing you a strong G&T and a hug.

I think the 'i never let my kids watch TV' brigade must be on another planet to me and my friends! Much better he sits and relaxes for a few hours, you get a rest and/or jobs done, rather than you being completely strung out at the end of the day. Now DS is at playgroup I never get the paints out. He likes just hanging out together, TV on or not.

you are not a bad mother - i can't remember the last time i did "making" with DD . But we do "stuff" every day. Sometimes that "stuff" involves plonking her in front of ceebeebies while i do house work, or mumsnet . But i think im quite a good mum actually.

DS1 probably loving his telly time - enjoy

Holymoly321 · 18/06/2008 17:29

thanks all - feeling a little less guilty now. Now I have to go and clear up the mega mess made by DS2 haviing dinner - it never ends does it?

I didn't let DD watch TV at first, but after I relented and watched it with her, she picks up words from it, copies movements and phrases.

Children's TV is actually quite good and I'm not so anal about it now .

She's sick at the moment, and it seems to calm her down, so maybe not such a bad thing in small doses!

sarahsails · 20/06/2008 13:02

Only 2 hours?

Morloth · 20/06/2008 14:07

That is what the telly is FOR imo.

I have been sick on and off the last week or so, thank God for Disney is all I can say.

Disney is my FRIEND! All hail the mouse! Giver of rest to mother's everywhere...

You will not be the first or last mum to have done this and felt guilty

ScarletA · 20/06/2008 17:27

Let yourself off the hook. You are a normal GOOD mum (or else why would you be guilt tripping yourself?)

champagneandroses · 22/06/2008 09:31

I agree you are not a bad mum and cbeebies has a lot of educational programmes anyway so they learn from it. My dd loves cbeebies and shes actually learnt sign language from it, its on most of the day sometimes in the background or sometimes she sits and watches it. If I didnt have that i'd never get anything done and its been particularly helpful since i only had ds 13 weeks ago.

"have left DS1 to watch CBeebies whilst I try and do some much needed housework. AM I a bad mum?"

Okay, what I would have done is plonked mine in front of CBeebies and gone to sleep on the sofa. So you're better than me already.
