First (lighter) bike

My child is struggling to ride his pedal bike, tried a lighter bike (borrowed from neighbour) and he was much better and felt happier on it! Any recommendations for light ish first bikes?

Budget is tight so I’ll likely be looking for secondhand or refurbished, any reputable websites also would be amazing please!

Thank you

Hi have a look at bike club you can pay monthly for bikes and then upgrade when your child needs the next size up. My daughter learnt to ride at 3 and I’m sure if was because she had a very lightweight frog bike!

Have a look on Facebook marketplace for Islabike, Frog, Squish. Measure the height and inside leg of your child and have a look on their websites for their size guides so you know which frame size to look for. We bought all but one of our child’s Islabikes on marketplace, and then sold them on for the same price we purchased them for when they were outgrown. The only cost was getting it serviced at our local bike shop.

Second hand Frog. Still not cheap cheap but so worth the money. They have size guides on their website so you can measure up, and once second hand, more or less hold their value so you can sell on again and recoup it.

Thank you everyone. This is really helpful! Handy to know they retain their value. The bike club also looks great, not heard of it and that is something I’ll also look at as an option!
