EBF baby refuses MAM dummy

Hi, my baby is nearly 4 months old and EBF. I’ve tried to give him MAM dummies but he keeps gagging and spitting it out. Are there any other good ones? My first took to mam dummies well but she was bottle fed.

Mine was EBF and wouldn’t take a dummy. I was glad of it in the end but in the moment it was hard as I wanted a break from comfort sucking.

My EBF never took a dummy, just be prepared some don't. At least didn't have to take it away!

Did he need a dummy? I EBF both of mine and neither had a dummy. If he doesn't want it, I'd go with that so you don't have a battle at a later date to get rid 😊

Thanks for your reply - my first had a dummy and I think it helped her to settle in her cot, i just can’t get him to settle in his cot and he always wants to sleep on me! we co sleep at night but naps in the day are on me. I thought a dummy might make it easier

yes that’s exactly it, the comfort sucking and I can’t get him to settle in his cot

Both mine refused dummies. Didn't matter the brand. I just put up with being nap trapped on the sofa with my first. For my second I got a fabric sling so I could get stuff done.

I used BIBS brand- Boots sell them. Worked great until about 5.5 months and then baby started taking them out so we went cold turkey and got rid! But maybe it's worth getting an own brand selection pack from Boots or online that's not so expensive and you can see if a different shape does the trick?

mine wouldn’t take bottle or dummy.

Different babies like different things an one of mine loved the dummy, one hated it and never took it. Both EBF.

Neither spent much time in a cot at 4 months, and certainly wouldn’t settle there. Sounds like you had it really good with your first!

HariboFrenzy · 19/03/2026 14:36

One of mine wouldn't take a dummy. I persevered and dipped it in gripe water which they liked and then they did take to it.

My EBF baby never took a dummy. Tried regularly since day 1 until about 6 months when I finally accepted I had wasted over £50. Literally bought every brand there is.

Iloveeverycat · 19/03/2026 17:00

Why do you need a dummy my 4 never had one.
