Fellow London mums - what was the average age in your nct groups/playgroups/nursery mums

I’m not too sure about nursery, because it was more a drop off and run (we didn’t stand around chatting about ages!). I’d say they looked between 35-45 (it’s hard to tell). NCT were 36,37,38,40,44. School (reception year), again it’s hard to say, but the people I chat with well enough to know their ages are between 38-46 (all with first child in reception and two have second babies). There are a couple of women who look late 20s/early 30s and one woman who is in her 50s (I only know this as she wrote it in the class WhatsApp group). Zone 2, North London.

A few ladies in their late 30s but mainly in their 40s.
North London, inner borough, gentrified to the max!

This was 21 years ago but I was easily the youngest at 29 in my NCT class. Most of the others were mid 30s (think 34-38), oldest was 40. At playgroups I would say there was more of a spread, from early 20s through to early 40s. I’m in SW London.

Yup, same here!

NCT youngest was 32 and oldest 42 (me). SW London. Nursery (private attached to a school), broadly similar I would guess, most mid-late 30s and early 40s. Of my actual close mum friends in London, the youngest is currently 35 and I am the oldest (now 47). Tbh age has never really been a factor, it’s more a case of same life stage and those who gelled in terms of similar interests, outlooks, parenting styles etc, eg all my close mum friends are very career focussed so we have stuff in common apart from just kids the same age.

noramoo · 05/03/2026 14:35

SW London - I was the youngest at 29, most 34-36, a few 37-39

Elasomere · 05/03/2026 18:25

35-40 I'd guess - based on looks/knowledge of career as people don't tend to share actual numbers! I have a feeling that some look younger than their real ages though! I moved around a bit, this was in Islington/Belsize/Hampstead areas.

SomeMonstersEatTelly · 05/03/2026 18:45

I was 35 and I think I was bang in the middle. Eldest was 42.
