Our 6yr old has cone home with an nhs letter from school saying they have tooth decay and I feel absolutely sick/like i have let them down.

We have a new baby so we probably have been pandering the last few months with too many sweets and not as focused on tooth brushing g as we shoukd have been.

How bad or common is this?

My mum hasn't helped as I asked her and she started talking about my cousins kid needing 8 teeth out?!

Nothing new. My daughter, now 45 had heart surgery at 4 months, she had to see the dentist to check for tooth decay, she was OK but they said that over half the children they saw had to have ALL their baby teeth removed

My brother was born without enamel on his teeth and his adult ones are the same, he has no teeth now at age 35, whereas myself never had a filling or tooth pulled- same home, same upbringing, some people are born with weaker teeth some stronger 🤷🏻‍♀️ doesn’t mean you are doing anything wrong.
