10 week old has low temp?

I have a ten week old boy, when he was two days old he had low temp and wasn’t feeding as much so I took him to a&e and he was admitted for 3 days for an infection they picked up on a blood test. Now two days ago he slept three hours during the day which isn’t like him and had been extra fussy and feeding less but still enough the two days previous. When I took his temp it was 35.8, to cut a long story short he’s been seen twice about this in the last two days but when he’s awake he can maintain his temp just not when he’s sleeping it seems. Both times he’s been checked he’s been awake so temp has read fine and they won’t do the blood test as he’s still alert and happy enough. Last night I had to have an extra layer on him and heating on most of the night to keep him at 36. Has anyone ever had anything like this before and have any idea what it could be? I’m just worried incase it’s another infection being missed and he is back in the doctors today at 3:30

How often do you normally take his temperature when he’s asleep? My assumption would be his baseline temp is just low (normal when sleeping). If you aren’t measuring it regularly, you won’t necessarily know that though. Some people just run cold. My normal temp is between 36.3-36.6. If it’s 37.3/4 I know I have a fever (I have cancer, so I have to check it regularly). If he seems otherwise well in himself and temp is normal when awake, I wouldn’t be too concerned.

He was having bad nappies the few days before but I assumed it was because his brother had a stomach bug. I’ve had to take his temps quite a bit through the night so far he’s had rsv twice and an infection as well as a cold so I have been keeping a close eye from birth which is how I know it’s unusual for him and also changing his nappies at night when I take off the sleeping bag his legs feel cold which they never normally do he’s always toasty and warm but now he’s quite cold to touch. Sorry to hear about your cancer too 💜

it does seem low but he is asleep, and temp drops when we sleep. I would keep regularly checking to see what it does

If it was just the temp being down and he seemed normal I wouldn’t mind so much but he definitely feels cold to touch his legs and body and his face feels completely different. I’m just so worried incase it’s another infection but don’t want him to have to do another blood test for no reason

I personally would have him checked again, he’s so young and things can change fast in little ones. But that’s just my personal opinion!

Body temp drops when you are asleep so that might be normal. How is he when awake? Unsettled or behaving like he normally does?

Try not to focus too much on hot and cold. Look at the other symptoms and actions.

Yeah hes back in the doctors this afternoon it was the first appointment I could get I was just more wondering if anyone had similar experience they keep looking at me like I’m losing my mind every time I take him in

He’s been more unsettled just before the temp drops started and was unsettled the first day they dropped but when they drop and he’s asleep he’s sleeping way deeper than before and harder to waken. When he’s awake he’s in good form smiley and alert
