How to stop 23mo stomping/charging around flat

Hi all,
Ds1 has came out with chickenpox on Sunday so I’m stuck indoors with my two dc until they crust over (typical as we were due to go on a UK trip tomorrow!)

I live in a small upstairs flat with no garden, just a small shared backyard which only really has room for the bins and washing line.

Ds2 (23 months) has started running/stomping/charging around the flat so I usually take him out walking and to the park daily so it’s doesn’t bother the downstairs neighbours.

I do have carpets and thick rugs but he’s tall for his age and he’s still uneven on his feet so often stumbles and crashes on the carpet. He’s also trying to jump which is making an almighty noise.

Ive been telling him not to run (calmly) but whenever I do he has a tantrum and flings himself to the floor. 😫

I’m worried about this disturbing the downstairs neighbours but not sure what I can do. He has so many toys and I’ve given him his birthday presents early (it’s at the weekend) to try and entertain him being stuck indoors. Bought loads of crafts but he's not interested. Doesn’t help he no longer naps during the day.

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Do the neighbours know about the chickenpox? Maybe if you apologise & explain the circumstances they’ll accept the extra noise for a few days.

Probably find somewhere deserted tbh. For my sanity rather than the neighbours, though!

I’m not sure what you can do if you’ve already got carpets and rugs. 2 year olds will run and jump around, and it’s good for their development to be able to practice jumping in their own home. We have soft play blocks at home and my 2 year old spends loads of time jumping off them and running around, I’d hate it if he couldn’t do this (we don’t live in a flat), toddlers are meant to be active.

I’d pop a little card through the door and apologise for the extra noise and explain.

But I definitely didn’t keep mine at home with chicken pox. We didn’t go to soft play or out to lunch in a busy cafe. But we went to the park and a wood and the beach and any other non-busy place I could think of.
