4 year old thrusting

I keep catching my 4 year old sitting on the floor thrusting. I’ve asked her about it and she said it calms her, should I have a conversation about it, leave it or do something?

define "thrusting" ???!!! has she any signs of worms?

Owlmoonstar · 20/02/2026 18:55

Thrusting? At an object? Into thin air?

Could it be some sort of autism related stim?

Trinityhome · 20/02/2026 19:07

She sits on the floor on her on her knees then moves her legs to the side so her bottoms parts are touching the floor and moves backs and forth in a thrusting movement

Masturbatory activity

KnickerlessFlannel · 20/02/2026 19:24

I'd say that it's fine to do it if it feels nice but that it needs to be done in a private area eg bedroom.

AvocadoChilli · 20/02/2026 19:24

Tell her it’s OK at home but not at school or in a cafe.

Definitely check for worms!!…but again, it’s developmentally typical/ normal to explore sensations that feel good ..we know that little boys can do certain behaviours but sometimes we are less tolerant of little girls doing the same ,so as parents it’s trying not to make a big thing of it. Does it bother you for a particular reason? I’m aware that sometimes parents can respond to their children’s behaviours because of their own negative experiences when growing up.

Any signs of thrush? She could be trying to itch her genitals.

BauhausOfEliott · 20/02/2026 20:45

Amused that some people are desperate for it to be worms, thrush, autism or literally anything other than what it almost certainly is.

She’s doing it because it feels nice. Tell her that’s fine but that it’s the kind of nice feeling that’s supposed to be kept private so she should only do it in her bedroom.

Pixiedust49 · 20/02/2026 20:48

I used to teach early years for a very long time and it’s surprisingly common, especially in girls.

WhichBigToe · 20/02/2026 23:25

My daughter does this too... though quite often on my leg when sitting on me 😬. It is obvious what she's doing because she usually says "ooh this feels nice on my vulva!". I gently put her off me and say some poorly formed phrase around privacy and not for public consumption. I think she does get that as I've never known her do it out of the house.

I’ve had a conversation with her and told her that she should only do it in her bedroom and then all day I’ve caught her downstairs doing it, driving me mad!
