Child Benefit Payment Help

Hi,

I will be contacting HMRC for clarification on this but it’s 4am and I’m up feeding baby and wondering if anyone can help!

Our daughter was born in December and I applied for child benefit a couple of weeks ago. Claim was accepted and the first payment of £104.20 was made last week. I have received a further £104.20 payment today, and am not sure if this is an overpayment or correct.

On the proof of entitlement it states the start date as 22nd December 2025. I was paid £104.20 on 4th Feb and a further 104.20 on 9th Feb. So I have received a total of 8 weeks worth, despite the claim start date being 7 weeks ago.

As said I will be contacting HMRC to check this but just wondering if anyone else has recently had their first payment(s) and if this is usual?

Thanks!

Hi, congratulations on having your baby! Hope the night feeds aren't too long :) child benefit is backdated for up to 3 months so it'll be a payment for January most likely, absolutely fine and nothing to worry about!
