Muuuum

Its relentless! My 2 children are 9 and 4 and the “muuuuum” “muum” “maaaam” is relentless, particularly from my 4 year old. I have taken myself to the bathroom and my bum has not even touched the seat and DD 4 has already said “muuuuum!” 5 times. Shes asking why i’ve locked the door and banging it saying “muuuuum” having a full blown conversation through the bathroom door. From the moment she wakes up (goes to school) then from the moment until she goes to bed, I feel my nervous system cracking!

and the repetitive questions, she must ask something at least 5 times even with answers before she is satisfied 😂

Sorry, couldn't resist. How about hide and seek? Could give you five minutes peace.

I am in exactly the same boat. It’s relentless 🤣 I have started saying “you do have a dad too!” Eve if Dh is in the room they automatically come to me “mummmmmmmaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy”

Kingdomofsleep · 03/02/2026 16:10

There is no escape. It has always been this way and always will be. There are aliens on distant planets shouting Muuuum through toilet doors at their Mums.

My DD used to be like this.
She now spends most of her time in her bedroom!

I have three, the youngest is 6. I wish I could say it eases off soon. It doesn't.

This used to be my kids. It fortunately passed with time. I would sometimes joke that I had changed my name and was no longer called Muuuuum.

GothicCola · 03/02/2026 16:21

Solidarity. My 3 year old is as relentless. I tell him I'm just going to the toilet/get something from upstairs/out to the bin etc, I've not taken 3 steps away from him and "Muuuummmmmyyy"

BarnacleBeasley · 03/02/2026 16:22

My four year old does this and my two year old has started doing it too, even though he can't really even talk yet, in exactly the same tone. It's like stereo sound from the back of the car.

Oh god. Once my then 7yo DS walked past 2 other adults (his dad and his aunt) to come and knock on the door to the bathroom to ask me if he could play on his Nintendo. I was very firm with him and DD after that that they only ever knock on the bathroom door if the question absolutely can't wait. And never ever if there is another adult who can help them.

I'd like to say that talking to was effective, but they still do it.

Muuuum...
Yes?
nothing
MUuum...
Yes?
nothing
MUUum
Yes?
nothing
MUUMM!
Sounds of shouting, enraged parent slumps to the floor brain cascading out of her ears
