Genuine question, why not bamboo?

AuntyBulgaria · 01/02/2026 17:48

Just a normal plate? Not sure I understand?

For what purpose? Weaning/kid plates or parties?
I have the stainless steel plates linked above.
I also use my glass tupperware as bowls when needed as I have round ones of different sizes
You could just go with a normal ceramic plate. What's wrong with the bamboo ones that have the sucky thing on the bottom? If they're certified from a good company?

IceIceSlippyIce · 01/02/2026 17:58

Err, ceramic is the typical choice for a plate?

FlappingAboutTheFuture · 01/02/2026 17:59

Camping plates, the enamel ones from camping shops.

Furlane · 01/02/2026 18:01

We use regular ceramic.

This. Most of use ceramic crockery day-to-day.

Dartmoorcheffy · 01/02/2026 18:04

Why no bamboo? Its compostable. I use that or bagasse for my catered parties

Assssofspades · 01/02/2026 18:05

Plain stainless steel, if it needs to be toddler proof.

Unicornsandprincesses · 01/02/2026 18:09

I’m guessing no bamboo due to the glue that manufacturers use to bind it all together.. I won’t put hot food into them for this reason. I tend to use them only for cold food. I use bogstandard plates for my kids. But for my toddler, I often let the food cool on a regular plate & decant into a bamboo one. Though he’s pretty much used to our normal plates now and I just sit with him so when he’s done, I remove it before he throws it on the floor.

Mt563 · 01/02/2026 18:10

We use white glass side plates from ikea. Very cheap so doesn't matter if they get broken. Lol similar enough to adult plates too satisfy toddler.

Peacefullbliss · 01/02/2026 18:44

Paper it is then.
Kids dont care what plate they have or where its from, they care whats on it.

ponyinmypocket · 01/02/2026 18:44

We use ceramic for the kids now they're not babies. I found some nice thick plates and bowls.

Or you could use stainless steel or enamel?

Lightsandrainbows · 01/02/2026 19:21

Haha sorry everyone, we’re in parenting so I assumed it’d be clear it was for a child. I should’ve said it’s for a toddler who throws their plate a lot, so ceramic doesn’t work.

bamboo isn’t dishwasher safe and if it doesn’t dry well enough can grow mould

Edited

lol I’m not asking because I’m trying to find something fancy.
but I would like to avoid plastic because of microplastics, and silicone because it smells and the food tastes disgusting from it.

stainless steel would be my preference but I hadn’t been able to find it from anywhere except Amazon, which I’d rather not buy from and a lot of their products don’t meet safety standards

I got porcelain ones from amazon, they have silicone sleeve that suction to the table, they are excellent. I got them from amazon US when I was travelling there, I haven't seen them in the UK but you might be able to order.

Enameled plates, honestly. Cheap as chips if you go for camping ones but you can also get Naice Ones if you are bothered about how they look.

QuantumPanic · 01/02/2026 20:09

Coincidentally have been looking for the same.

Unfortunately I can only find them on Amazon. Lots of knock-offs on eBay, but who knows what they're made of!
