Colic or intolerance!?

Hi all,
my baby is 12 weeks old. He has had issues with reflux which seems to have settled since he is bigger. However, he has so much gas in his stomach and his stomach just makes bubbling sounds all the time! The smell of the gas he passes is horrendous, like sulphate and fills the room! I don’t know how this coming out of a little baby.
he has constipation too for which we give movicol but the problem is the trapped gas. He cries on and off for hours and has been also refusing feeds for the past week. Sometimes he can only be fed on the side which relieves the gas pain. We have been told this is colic by the GP.

He is mixed fed with pumped breast milk and aptamil. At first we used the aptamil number 1. We then tried the anti reflux aptamil
which did help the reflux but gave him awful constipation. We then tried the aptamil hungry baby milk as he went through a stage where the number one milk wasn’t enough. We have just tried the last few days the aptamil comfort milk for colic which I think has had a minor improvement with less crying. However, he passes so much gas but it never seems enough and he’s still full of it.

i have no bought the Hipp organic to try as that was recommended by someone. We have always stuck to aptamil between changing milks that I thought we try something new. However, I do wonder if he has some sort of intolerance because surely this amount of gas and egg smell constantly is not normal for a 12 week old baby. I feel not sure where to go with this.
any advice please?

Try giving infacol before his feeds

I wouldn’t try new milks. Ideally, you’re meant to switch them over slowly to a new one. If you’ve changed around to that may at only 12 weeks, that alone could be causing upset (btw, we did try Hipp and it was the worst of them, horrible redux and projectile vomiting everywhere). I really would pursue CMPA as a possibility given everything you’ve said. That is the only quick switch to a new formula I’d make. Obviously, you would need to restrict dairy (and soya) yourself if you want to continue to provide some breastmilk. I’d be inclined to do that, but hold back the breastmilk so you know you can properly eliminate dairy to test the intolerance. You can always re-introduce later as long as you know you’ve been careful with what you eat and you’ll build up a nice freezer stash.
