Feel like a terrible mom- what could I have done differently?!

Decided to head straight out to the park this morning after breakfast. DS is 2 and a half so does better with some fresh air to start the day.

We sometimes battle the pushchair so I explained we would be in for a bit, then out at the park and back in to come home. We walked the 15 minutes and had a lovely hour in the woods/park. When it was time to come home all hell broke loose.

He wanted to come home so it wasn’t even that! Wouldn’t get in the pram (I’m almost 9 months pregnant so can’t ‘force’ him at the moment). Refused to walk. Wanted to be carried- not possible with such a big bump. He was absolutely screaming and inconsolable for a good half an hour. A lovely woman and her dog even stopped to help us. I ended up getting a short taxi home!

He was well fed, wrapped up warm/dry with water and snacks on hand. Is this just a random toddler outburst or could I have done something differently?!

I always bride toddlers into the buggy with a snack or have a little toy in my bag to distract them. He sounded tired and I don't think it was anything you did.

Tired and maybe aware that you can't carry him as much because of your bump, so he's protesting.

You didn't do anything wrong.

Overtired toddlers throw the most amazing tantrums - not much fun when you're trying to wrestle a pram and a bump though! Nothing much you could have done, it was just one of those moments - bribes sometimes work, they sometimes don't, so you did the right thing by getting a taxi home. Hope things have settled down a bit and you manage to get a bit of a rest this afternoon Smile

Yes, this is normal. Mine had me crying in the supermarket whilst heavily pregnant because I wanted to buy him a toy and he didn't want it 🙄

Not sure what pushchairs are like these days (going back 20 years) but mine was a mamas and papas and there was a little bit on the back my DS could stand on while i pushed it. Bit like an inbuilt buggy board just not bulky (sorry not sure how else to describe it).

If you are having a baby, could you get a buggy board? He is going to want to be more and more independent and sometimes you need to choose your battles.

Thank you everyone! He’s been a bit cuddly today so maybe just coming down with his 156th cold of the winter. Glad to hear there wasn’t a lot else I could have done!

Will be looking into the buggy board!
