Travel safety items

Hi,
We are going on a road trip this summer with our 2.5yr old. I’m a little nervous about being in different accommodation and not having stair gates etc. I’d hoped he would still be in a travel cot but it’s looking more and more likely that he will be in a bed by the summer, which means he will be ‘free to roam’ as it were. Can anyone recommend stair gates which hold up small to put in the car, and which can be fitted without needing screws/damaging woodwork or items which can lock doors to make sure he can’t let himself out of anywhere? He can use most normal door handles and understands the concept of keys and latches. I’ve found some door wedge alarms which I will buy to put by external doors.
We did find a tent bed which we thought would work but it had an internal zip which he can use….

I think you’re overthinking it. Yes you can get tension stair gates but if he’s climbed the cot he’ll have no issue climbing those. Not to mention they can still scuff paint, you won’t know the dimensions of the doorframes and they’re not small to transport about. I think you just need to choose your accommodation wisely, check the floor plan works for you so his room is next to yours and there are no major hazards like direct access from the bedroom to an unfenced pool. Then you supervise him closely during the day, set up a video monitor if you’re going to bed before him and sitting elsewhere, and tell him to shout for you rather than getting up in the morning. Also, if he is in a bed then a pool noodle or rolled up towel under the fitted sheet works as a makeshift bed guard.

Thanks - definitely over thinking it! No pools to worry about until the final place and that’s gated. It’s more the variety of apartments enroute with possible things he might be able to get his hands on that is making me nervous, or access to balcony doors. He can’t climb the cot but the travel cots annoy
him now and he doesn’t sleep. I think I’m just terrified of the thought of him loose at night if I’m honest!

Little arc travel cot tent. Zips on outside only.

Door alarms. Masking tape them to any relevant door.

Big strip of velcro on the bed sheet. Big strip of velcro on his PJ's.

Also recommend this. My 4.5 can still fit in it but probably not for much longer but we’ve loved it for the last 3 years
