10 month old makes whooping noises but no cough

It only happens when he's awake, not asleep, but they are loud whooping and squeaking noises upon inhaling. He has had a bit of a cold recently but nothing major. He is fully vaccinated including against whooping cough. The noises are not happening during or shortly after coughing so I am confident it is not that.

This only started happening around 3-4 weeks ago. Baby is otherwise completely fine - gaining weight, eats and drinks well, sleeps brilliantly, loves playtime, very social etc. But the noises are concerning.

We have a paediatric appointment coming up next month in relation to reflux issues which were mostly solved by time and anti reflux formula but wondering is it worthwhile raising this with the GP before then? Or nothing to worry about?

Under ones can get whooping cough with no cough (Wikipedia). While the pertussis vaccine is good, there are lots of strains of pertussis and not all of them are in the vaccine, and the vaccine works better against some than others.

I would ask to see/send a message to the GP and try to record it on your phone or the baby monitor if you can? And let them know how long it's been happening.

If it's been going on for a while, your baby could have had pertussis without you realising it. It's other name is 100 day cough because the whooping part can last 10 weeks or more.
