My son never went to nursery and only did two mornings a week at preschool. We increased over the course of the year to four mornings for the final five weeks. He's enjoying reception.

Lots of children go from home to school. Seeing friends’ dc who did this, they seemed more overwhelmed and more tired for the first year and struggled a lot more with illnesses. Whereas mine were bouncing off the walls having such a short day that ended at 3, when they weren’t used to getting home until 5:30pm.

The most important thing will be socialisation and self-care before they start. Do they know how to make and maintain friendships? Not just playing and turn taking (that’s also important), but making actual friends. And then washing hands, serving lunch, toileting, putting on coats and shoes, looking after their things, etc.
