Growing pains? When yo be concerned

my 3 year old is waking every other night very distressed complaining of pain on the backs of his knees. It’s usually both but sometimes just the right one.
he has mild eczema behind the knees (occasionally pink, rarely dry. Skin has never broken and it doesn’t seem to be itching).
he is very distressed when the pain wakes him from sleep. He doesn’t complain of pain during the day.
I have to stay with him, usually apply more emollient to his eczema and give him calpol . Usually he settles down about 15 minutes later and goes back to sleep.
I have read that behind the knees is a common area for growing pains but he seems in so much pain and so upset. Is this normal?! Did anyone else’s child have anything similar?!

Following as going through exact same with my 3 year old! Feel so bad for her when it happens.
