Newborn and toddler at nursery

Hiya we had our littlest boy on Saturday! We have a 2yr old at home who goes to nursery 2 days a week. His next day is tomorrow. Torn between keeping him off for a week cause of bond and germs. Although aware to germs will be there after a week and tbh after a C-section a rest might be helpful.

How did everyone play this and am I over thinking 🤔

Congratulations on your new baby.

My advice, keep his routine. It will benefit both you in having time to recover and him in terms of not feeling like everything in his world has changed and given him a chance to burn off some energy.

Congratulations from me too. I would take him and enjoy some time with your LO.

We had our eldest in nursery 3 days and didn't change her routine. In fact nursery was our childcare for her while dc2 was born and DH wouldn't have been able to be at the birth otherwise.

I’d send him in. Trust me, they have years to bond (and likely, fight a lot). The thrill wears off very quickly. Give yourself a break and a chance to nap.

Peonies12 · 19/01/2026 09:41

I’d keep the routine; and have a break. It’s boring for him at home when you will be occupied with the new baby.

Keep the routine. He will have much more fun at nursery with his friends. Babies are pretty boring, especially for toddlers!

What do you all think about germs just go with it?

LO will come into contact with germs whether or not DC1 goes to Nursery.

I think you might be overthinking this OP. Smile

Lots of people still keep the routine with subsequent siblings, DC2 attended a couple of DC1’s regular groups with me within the first week. The risk of germs never even crossed my mind.
