Any tips and advice. My little girl turned 2 this week.

I did it at the start of December and my daughter turned two at the start of January. She’s doing really well, still has an accident but very rarely, has a pull on nappy during the night and a nap. Apart from that she’s using a potty. If we had a long car journey we’d still put a pull on nappy just for the journey. Hope that helps

DD1 was 2 years and 2 months
DD2 was 2 years and 6 months
DS was 2 years and 9 months.

The girls trained very easy. The boy.. he was tricky!
DD2 I waited a few extra months as I was pregnant and felt like I needed it to be as smooth as possible!
The boy I tried earlier but it didn’t go well so I backed off for a bit.

I would try and wait until the weather is a little warmer. Plan a good chunk of time, like a weeks holiday, to focus on potty training. Stay home for the first couple of days and watch them like a hawk. Lots of praise. Good luck!

My boys were both just over 3, in spring/early summer, it was easy to be honest

DD was 19 months
DS1 was 21 months
DS2 is just getting the hang of it now at 23 months.
I introduced a potty from around 6 months though and put them on it after naps/ at nappy changes etc so it’s always been a part of their routine.

I started DS1 at 2 years 2 months after I found him with his nappy off trying to perch on the downstairs loo. I think it took a couple of weeks. I started DS2 at 2 years 4 months, and he was done in two weeks as well. DS3 was a little later at 2 years 6 months, and he was sorted in a couple of days.

DD at 23 months and nailed it in pretty much half a day. Still wears nappy for naps and night but often dry. Used the Oh Crap book religiously and it worked a dream. Get a travel potty!

BlueWorkDay · 11/01/2026 23:11

DD was exactly 2-yo. It took a day, she only had one memorable accident.

She was night time dry at (only ever had one wet bed).

But, when it comes to potty training (and esp being dry at night), when they're ready, it's easy, if they're not, it's almost impossible.

My DC was 2.5, we introduced a potty at 2yrs though to get used to having it by around, explained what it was for etc… Took a week off work and just went for it. Was a stressful first couple of weeks with a few accidents, but they had it nailed in a month.

Next on my list is transitioning this to the toilet, I don’t see that being as easy tbh.

Started at 2nd birthday, 18-30 months is the ideal period to start training.

MIKEAY · 11/01/2026 23:30

Around 2yrs 4 months I think, which in retrospect was too early. She got the jist pretty quickly but kept having semi regular accidents for aaaaages. It would have been easier to keep her in a nappy for longer. She was actually dry at night far earlier than she was reliably dry in the day.

mondaytosunday · 11/01/2026 23:43

I think around two and a half. Day dry within a week night in two weeks. Odd accident (when they say they need to go the need to go NOW). It was fairly easy.

Ladamesansmerci · 11/01/2026 23:51

I'm planning to start when I have a week off March. DD will be 21 months by then.

TabbyMcTattle · 12/01/2026 07:27

DS was just about to turn 3, done in a stress free weekend. He really wasn't interested before that.

DD was 23mo when she started taking her nappy off and sitting on the potty so we just went with it.

Big variation!

GreenLemonade · 12/01/2026 11:04

I tried when DS was 2 years 8 months old. It didn't go well so he went back to pull ups for a few months. I tried again when he was 3 and it was very easy, he got it in a day and has hardly had any accidents since. He also became dry at night around the same time.

MarioLink · 12/01/2026 20:28

The Summer they were 2. So 2 years 4 months and 2 years 2 months. The younger one was easier.
