nappy liners and solids

DD is ex BF at present but is 6m next week and we will start baby led weaning. We currently use fleece liners in 2 part nappies and we have some pocket nappies, the bf poo washes out fine, we don't rinse or anything first - just straight to bucket then machine. Now the poo is inevitably going to get more solid soon, I dislike the idea of putting this in my machine. I thought I would swop to paper ones when they get more solid. How do I use them? Do I cut them into thirds so the same size as a fleece? Its bad to fold isn't it? why? Should I put paper inside my pocket nappies (fuzzis, bumgenius, pocket bots)

You can just stick with the fleece - you may find that the solids just come off that very easily - it always has for my DD unless she is teething or has a cold. You just hold the fleece over the loo and pull both ends at the same time so as to stretch the fleece IYSWIM than the solids should just fall off.

If you go down the paper route then you are right in that you shouldn't fold them - this will make them too much of a barrier for wee to pass through easily. You can cut them down to size as neccessary - saves money too. When your DD is bigger you might like to keep them the same size and just tuck any edges inside the nappy once it is one. You can put the paper ones inside your pockets too - doesn't affect their absorbancy.

There are lots of paper ones about and they do vary a lot. It is worth experimenting a bit I think. My DD was allergic to one particular type (junior joy I think). These worked well for us. They are thicker than most. You can get them in several places, not just NL - can't remember the make but they are always packaged like this. They can be washed an reused too if just wet - don;t flush more than one at a time!

Make sure your liners are completely inside the wrap or pocket nappy or they will wick.

OOoohhhh...you use pocket bots??? My fave

I don't like the pocket bots as some of the fleece is on the outside so it wicks round to the cotton side and her clothes . I have acow print one with purple fleece and a purple spots one with green fleece. They are lovely but I wish the fleece didn't encroach on the outside and I wish the poppers were the other way around - that the back wings sat on top like a fuzzi. LOVE bumgenius. Hope childminder can manage to lift poo paper out of BG and flush.

We like the Little Green Earthlets ultra liners too (we get them in Waitrose), and if not pooey we just leave them in and wash them and use as kitchen wipes. Nursery cope fine with liners, but they have quite a few in cloth.
