When to move from crib to bed

We are moving countries and cannot take my son's crib as it's too expensive to ship. He will be 19 months....do I pay a ton of money for a crib or go straight to a bed?

He is breastfed to sleep and stays asleep, I grab him in the morning when he wakes, so he doesn't have a lot of opportunity to try and climb out. If we weren't moving, I wouldn't consider moving him from the crib.

I would get a bed and a bed guard if you are worried about him falling out. My youngest who’s 2 now went straight from my bed to a single bed with a bed guests at about 14 months with no adverse affects.

I think it's recommended that they move to a toddler bed at about 90cm tall. It depends a lot on their individual development so they may be fine! Can you get a crib that converts into a toddler bed?

My son was 3.2 when we moved from cot to bed.

Mine was under two when they moved to a floor bed. Look up Montessori beds.

We have a floorbed for our 14 month old. We love it!

@PineappleMelon @Justlostmybagel do they not get cold on a floorbed? His travel cot is a baby bjorn where the mattress is all the way on the floor and I found he got quite cold when we were travelling.

Assuming they sleep well in the cot then I would not move them before age 3 unless they climb out and therefore it’s necessary for safety. It’s just creating hassle for no reason otherwise. Get a cot bed that can convert from a crib to a toddler bed when they’re ready for sides to come off and you’re set until around age 4. IDK where you’re moving too but if they have Ikea just get it from there. Great value and good quality. There really is no need to spend a fortune.

No, not that we've ever noticed! She still has a bedframe so the mattress isn't directly on the floor. And she wears pyjamas and a sleep sack appropriate for the temperature and we haven't had any issues with her being cold.

I moved both of mine at 3 years and it worked well; we've never had issues with them being out of bed at night. The oldest didn't even realise she could get out of bed without asking for ages! The youngest climbed out of the cot once at 18 months but never did it again.
