dd2 is 13 months next week and she has just started to rock back and to. Its never for long (yet) and it mainly seems to be when she is tired or frustrated.

My other two never did anything like this so am at a loss. She also head bangs on occaision too.

I'm a bit worried is this normal?

Normal, DS1 comforted himself by rocking at that age.

Head banging also, as part of a tantrum. I just used to move him onto the rug and let him get on with it (hard floor)

He is fine, age 8 now

I don't know the answer to that, but Dd almost 18 months now used to do the head banging thing. It did pass with her though, but did worry me at the time. I think a lot of lo's go through that. The rocking I'm not familiar with, but I'm quite certain someone else will be able to share their experiences with you.

thanks both of you for replying. How do I deal with it do I ignore it or distract her?

I ignored the head banging, though if I was wincing at it, I did tend to move her. As I said before, I've no experience of rocking, but that isn't going to cause bruising(!), so ignore that I guess. If it gets worse or goes on for a while, perhaps mention it to the HV if you have a good one or ask your GP. If nothing else, they should be able to ease your mind.

My DS used to rock used to rock back n forth when he was in his high chair!

It was usually when he was getting impatient waiting for me to bring his food through. If I took too long he would be across the other side of the room by nudging it a little further each time he rocked.

Hes nearly 16 months now and hasnt done it for ages.
