3 boys - so much noise!

Anyone else parenting 3 boys? Ours are 11, 9 and 6 and I feel like I’m at my whits end. They are just so noisy ALL the time, even if not fighting they are screaming and yelling (happily) and just generally cannot keep their hands off each other! Maybe it’s normal for this age and stage with 3 boys but my nerves are wrecked. They’re like dogs who just can’t stop chasing and pawing at each other, just so much energy. They are generally very ‘good’ boys, bright, doing well in school, polite but just so full on when they’re togeher. Even taking one child out of the equation makes it so much easier but when they’re together it’s madness. Any advice to calm things down from people who have been there??

I take your three boys and raise you ..... I have five

My DH is one of 4! They were all in cadets / scouts / football / park all the time to burn off energy. Keeping them outside and active was the only way to keep sane according to MIL.

I have a DS and a DD and don’t let anyone tell you ‘there’s no difference, it’s just personality…’

DS has the engine of a jumbo jet and he doesn’t ’wear his battery down’, he’s plugged into the mains. I’m exhausted! 3 boys makes you superwoman!

I'm going to throw a spanner in the works of your theory.... I have 2 boys and one girl. She is noisier, crazier and more energetic than both boys combined!

My boys are 13, 11 and 9. Yup: it’s loud.

Mummymimosa · 02/01/2026 22:42

3 boys here - 10,6 and 4. I honestly creep down the stairs in the mornings before any of them wake, just a few minutes of peace. The noise is constant from the second their little eyes open until bedtime! Tempted to get some loop earplugs..

Our son was the second of our four children. He was loud, still is! Even our next door neighbour commented that she could always hear him before she could see him. He fought and argued with his big sister and his sister who was born after him but not his youngest sister. He got into scrapes, ended up at A & E a bunch of times, managed power tools from a young age, built amazing creations from scratch with wood and nails and junk of all kinds, tinkered with cars, drilled holes with his drill in our fences and the brick work in the utility room and now owns his own successful business. He is still loud, as large as life, his sisters love him to bits on the quiet, calls in often at weekends asking if he can have breakfast and his son, our grandson is exactly the same. Early years with four were chaos and he was the loudest of the lot, I wouldnt have changed it for the world.

I remember that stage. I had three boys in just under four years. I loved the noise and the madness, tbh. I remember a friend with an only daughter visiting for a play date and her wondering how I coped. All I could say was I knew no different! They were well behaved boys, never any trouble, just noisy and adored a play scrap. They're grown up now and I miss those days. The volume in our house goes up considerably whenever DS1 comes to visit; he's still full on and great fun, though the physical scrapping has stopped now thank god

@Mummymimosa don’t buy the loop earplugs ! Total waste of money I was so disappointed 😩

Mummymimosa · 03/01/2026 10:24

@goodnightssleepbeniceOh no, really! That’s a shame! I thought they would be ideal 😞

Coffeeandbooks88 · 03/01/2026 10:30

My eight year girl screeches and screams. Give me the boys!

bitterexwife · 03/01/2026 10:32

Yep! My boys are 7, 6&6, and ‘good’ like yours. The energy and noise levels is astonishing though.
