So what's the protocol for cleaning a potty?

It seems a bit foul to wash it in the washhand basin but inefficient to just wipe it with an antibac wipe. Someone humour and tell me what I'm supposed to do with the thing once the contents are down the loo?

I rinse it, then spray with bathroom cleaner and wipe with kitchen roll.

If it got really poo-ey then I wash it under the hot running tap with washing up liquid and use kitchen roll as a cloth.

Swill under bath hot tap, job done.

If I am at a playgroup and there is a communal potty in the toilet: I don't WASH IT OUT in the handbasin, rather I hold it carefully under a tap so that nothing could get into the handbasin, run a bit of water in it, remove carefully from handbasin, swill water round and tip that down the loo.

If we are out and about with our own potty it never goes near the handbasin:

I get the child to use a potty with a folded terry nappy in the bottom (of the potty not the child ) to absorb wee, and then tie the lot up in a carrier bag till you get home. If they poo I just tip what I can down the loo and again wrap in carrier bag.

There was a thread about this a few weeks ago and people were really not happy that others wash potties out in washbasins.

Oh sorry are you referring to a potty used at home??

Thought you meant handbasins in public loos.

In that case I give it a blast under the shower!

fiddledidee · 10/06/2008 23:19

we tend to tip contents down loo, rinse with water from the bath tap (a potty wouldn't fit in our handbasin anyway) tip that down the loo and then a quick once-over with an antibac wipe.

ohhh, the stuff we debate on mumsnet

Yes, potty at home rather than out and about (haven't been brave enough to do that yet!). My worry about the bath is that both dds drink bathwater every bathtime......

ummm, but they almost certainly piss in the bath every bathtime aswell...

Never carried a potty while out and about. At home, tip contents down the loo, give it a wipe with some loo roll, then squirt with spray bottle of vinegar and wipe it out again. I will be SO pleased when I can consign the potty to the attic.

i never took a potty out and about...
at home im with raven; quick swill under tap and job done. maybe a bit of soap if theres poo to shift.
