Anti Reflux milk - please help!

Hi everyone. We’ve just bought some cow&gate anti reflux milk and bigger teats for our little one (1 month old) to see if it makes any difference with his many reflux symptoms.

Only thing I’ve noticed is the really odd preparation instructions - to boil the kettle and let it cool for 45 minutes before you add the formula? Does it not need boiling water to be sterile? And how are you supposed to predict a bottle 45 minutes before it’s needed!

I can’t imagine how awkward this is going to be during the night or when we go out, but they’re obviously popular milks so I wonder what other people do?

My baby had CMPA so I've looked into various formulas (he was breastfed so i didn't end up using it as he rejected all hypoallergenic formulas). But what I learned is that some special formulas have ingredients which would be destroyed if you used boiling water.

Standard formula requires boiling water to kill the bacteria in it.

Always follow the instructions on the box.

People who have only ever used standard formula will come give you advice that does not apply to the kind you are using.

And yes, it will be a faff and there will be lots of waste involved.

Also has someone actually watched you bottle feed. First line for reflux is for someone to actually watch a feed, anyone experienced can usually pick up any oral function issues etc very quickly and they’re most likely to be the cause of reflux.

does he gulp when feeding? Sound like he’s swallowing air, dribble milk out of the bottle? Make clicking sounds.

Generally you want smaller, well shaped (tapered) teats with relatively slow flow.

My son's formula was like this. I got a hot water dispenser where I could set the temperature. Bottles in seconds, easy peasy😊
