How much do you pay for nursery in London

Posting for traffic. We've decided to relocate back to London, we have been abroad for a few years. We'll be living in Clapham. How much is full time nursery for an 18 month old, no government funding? I've been looking online but none of the nurseries have prices up, waiting for them to respond to emails.

Just trying to get a very rough idea for a budget. We'll obviously visit them in person etc etc but that is months away.

£500-£600 a week full time. It’s a lot!

£100 a day But:

  • it has gone down £5 a day when dc turned thrre
  • if you both earn under 100k you can get 30 free hours a week term time only from 9 months - stretched to 22 hours a week full time. This usually equates to about 2 days free a week
  • uou can also get 2k free a year per child by paying via a nursery tax account. Again only if you earn under 100k
  • if you earn over 100k you can reduce your income to under 100k by paying pension contributions then receiving free hours. We do this

Just outside of London and it’s £125 per day.

We don’t get any funding and pay around £125 a day.

Goes down to £115 a day when DS turns 3 and then we’ll be able to get the 15 hours a week too.

Between £2,300-2,650

Goes up every year by 5-10%, it’s a shocker.

We’re 3 days a week so part time in Balham and it comes to about £1300 a month.

We’re in Guildford so not London but ours is the same as friends in SW London - £115 a day before tax free childcare/free hours (if eligible)

5 days full time £2,600. Another nearby would be £2,900.

You have to wonder where this ends exactly.

My nursery’s fees have gone up £500 a month in 2.5 years. Every January it’s another couple of hundred quid. Just to pay that extra £500 I need to earn an extra ~£10,000 a year.

Birth rate down 23% in London in ten years. Does it just keep getting worse? Is there a point where the nurseries can’t attract pupils any more?

Plus not being eligible for the 30 hours + tax free childcare now seems to be worth about £15k per child. So not being eligible for it is a huge financial loss.

The whole thing is wild.
