Kids walking in

I’m on another group and it seems to be a common theme that kids have walked in on mum and her new partner (it’s a single parent group but probably happens with both parents too) I mean how hard is it to fix a lock to the door to so this never happens? It’s often followed by “happens to us all” “we’ve all been there” nope absolutely never happened to me. Am I wrong to say this doesn’t happen to everyone and it’s careless?

I think not everyone can attach a lock to their door eg. in a rental house you may not be allowed to. Its careless yes, but I'd say not uncommon. Even if you wait until kids are asleep in the dead of night you've no absolute guarantee they won't wake up and come looking for you.

its never happened to us either. Also I don’t think it’s really appropriate to be having sex with a new partner in the house with your kids.

There’s really other options?! Teach your kids to knock child was 10! Get a sitter half of these partners are “new” partners they’ve been seeing a couple of months!

If people can't put a lock on the door they can certainly put something heavy in front of it! My bedroom doors have always opened inwards so I assume that's the norm.

If you cannot put a lock on the door, you can use a door wedge to keep the door closed.

LadyDanburysHat · 02/12/2025 14:08

Yes, there are certainly options. It is bad enough if kids happen to walk in on their parents, but for it to be a new partner is absolutely awful.

Door wedge, chair, whatever it takes for it to not happen

Honestly don’t get anyone defending it, never walked in on my parents and my kids have never walked in on me, sad thing is it’s usually with a new partner of 6 months that the kid adores 🙄
