What do you really dislike doing with your dc's, but for no real reason?

I have promised to take dd swimming tonight. I hate hate hate taking her swimming, but there is no reason for me doing so-the lifeguards are mainly female, so am not bothered about my wobbles (too much!), dd has a whale of a time, and swims free on a mon and wed so it's cheap cheap cheap, she is finally big enough to go on the flumes (and what a shame, mummy has to go on with her!! ), she has a shower afterwards so don't have the faff of bathtime when we get back, and she sleeps like an angel that night. It's all plusses, so why do I hate it so much? Anyone else got any?

My drawing is so bad dd has to ask me what it is . I dislike artwork as there is always so much of it (it is very beautiful though!), everywhere! And the second I bin one piece that looks like it has been an abandoned attempt she wants to know where it is-there is only so much room in the house (and so many trees on the planet!!)

Another craft hater. It used to take ages to get all the stuff out, ds (with the attention span of a gnat) would fiddle around with it for about ten minutes the get bored and wander off, somehow having made three hours worth of mess which then took another half hour to clear up. Utterly pointless.

I love doing crafts and baking etc, but absolutely cannot abide bloody bricks/lego; dd's given up on asking me to help as I'm a) rubbish at it , and b) she must pick up on the fact that I look like I'm slipping into a coma after about 2 mins!

I despise crafts and playdough. If you want to see a mummy go from 0 to screaming in 3 seconds come to our house. I am not an arty person myself and the mess just drives me crazy - why cant they just stay on the paper and not drift off onto the table why, why WHY?!!! Then of course there is the pile of flaky, glittery paintings stored in various cupboards throughout the house because I can t bear to throw them away.

Cooking though I love, always whipping up fairy cakes and muffins with DS.

Role playing.

Is it really bad to answer the question "do you want to play schools mummy" truthfully?

(a) the smell
(b) other people's bodily fluids, all be they diluted
(c) the tackiness of the shower rooms
(d) the certainty of verrucas (sp?)
(e) the other people (this is not so bad as their bodily fluids)

'Pretending'. I just want to lie on the floor and go to sleep when they suggest it.

Am back from the pool. Not as bad as I thought, but dropped all our clothes and (dry) towels on the soaking wet floor because they decided it was time to clean the women's changing rooms so we had to move all our stuff to the mens (me clutching rubber ring, beach ball, arm bands, mr Ted, big blanket, oversized handbag, open rucksack, shampoo etc and towels), The man then helpfully sprayed the clothes with his hosepipe. Thanks . Was the only one there with cellulite or even anyone showing any fat at all, and the lifeguard was gorgeous. I hate swimming!

Playgrounds. And softplay.

I would bake ten cakes, build fifteen lego castles, dance Swan Lake singlehanded, invent three hundred stories and pretend to be Prince Philip to dd's Sleeping Beauty five times over to avoid those

I hate playing snakes and ladders. Too many farking snakes and it takes forever to finish the game. DS loves it.

i hate swimming too, it's such a pain getting undressed, coming out into the cold changing room and trying to get clothes back on when you're damp and the floor's wet.

Hate the park, hate swimming, hate son's football cards which I would dearly like to tear into tiny pieces and then BURN THEM!!

Love lego, am often the last one playing with it when dc have wandered off.

Sixspotburnet - I have just been persuaded to read the Narnia stories out loud. Am on book 1 - already lost my voice. Only another 6 books to go. OMG ARHHHHHHHHHH

playdoh is banned in this house.

they eat it, stick it to toys, bury it in plantpots, walk it into the floor....... basically do anything other than just play with it.

weirdly at playschool and toddler group they can play nicely with the stuff for hours

Memory match.
And Junior Monopoly
And a really really boring maths game that I have temporarily blanked out the name of because I lose the will to live whenever I play it.
Oh yes, and Top Trumps. Especially Roald Dahl Top Trumps.
And not forgetting real Monopoly because the losing child inevitably upsets the board and storms off. (I blame the parents.)

I don't mind doing lego the first time. What I do object to is when the come and give you the bits 5 minutes later because they have broken it and expect you to repair it.

I also don't like painting but I don't like the mess and the constant threat of pots of paint being up ended.

One thing I really hate doing with them, which is totally unreasonable, is helping them brush their teeth. D

rives me to distraction that they can't or won't do it properly and they won't keep their mouths open long enough to let you do it for them. I must admit DH has to supervise it most of the time as he has more patience.

Mouse Trap- Takes ages to set up, it's boring, the traps NEVER work, the rules are flimsy to say the least and the baby eats the ball bearings.

Report
Niecie · 10/06/2008 00:21

Oh yes - I am with you on Mousetrap. I had forgotten we had it as I have hidden in the hope the DC have grown up before it ever gets uncovered.

I don't think we have ever managed to play it because it is impossible to set up.
