A different question about baby/toddler room sharing

Following on from TattooedGrrrl's thread on putting a baby in with a toddler.

I would like to put my two DDs when DD2 is 6 months (DD1 will be 2.10). My only problem is that DD1 loves to pick DD2 up and carry her around. I'm just worried that she'll try to get her out of the cot and end up dropping her.

How much do I need to worry about this? And is there a solution?

If you put dd2 in a regular size cot then dd1 shouldn't be able to get her out. I can barely reach fgs and my dd who is 6 certainly can't.

Only problem is climbers. I found my DS (3 ) in DDs(7 months) cot playing with her, and they are in different rooms.....

put the cot on its lowest base setting and it should be ok. If DD1 picks her up she will have had to climb into the cot to so it.

Then you can work on the picking up in the day by saying, ask mummy...only if a grown up knows etc

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, she is a climber. She often clambers into DD2's cot and I just don't trust her not to try and hoick DD2 over the side. I shall check if the cot is on the lowest setting and, hopefully, over the next couple of months the novelty of carrying a baby around might wear off.

I should think over the next couple of months it won't be the novelty wearing off - it will be the baby getting heavier and heavier that stops your dd1 picking her up!
