Im thinking of getting it on contract as finished my exes contract.
My DS is 9 ,10 in spring.
Do people think its age appopriate. It would be for in the house as he doesnt go anywhere alone.
I wont allow any social media. His ipad recentley broke as i bought him a reconditioned one a couple of years ago

No, he’s too young.

Whereismyfleeceblanket · 22/11/2025 16:32

Way too young.

AlexaStopAlexaNo · 22/11/2025 16:33

😂😂😂😂😂

Tell him to keep right on wanting, for at least another five years.

Of course it's not appropriate. A nine year old doesn't need a phone, who is he going to be calling? 😂

luckylavender · 22/11/2025 16:35

Far too young

ResusciAnnie · 22/11/2025 16:36

Uh, absolutely not. Send him out to play with his friends - far safer than being let loose on the internet.

Merseymum1980 · 22/11/2025 16:42

Yes i think your all right. I dont want to be getting myself another monthly bill anyway

My son is 11 and doesn’t have one. If he goes to a secondary school where he needs to travel he will have one. But not before

WeepingAngelInTheTardis · 22/11/2025 16:47

My son had a phone at the age of seven, hes nine now and nearly all his friends do. 🤷🏻‍♀️

WanderlustMom · 22/11/2025 16:47

I’d personally wait until secondary school age

VikaOlson · 22/11/2025 16:49

We've told my 11 year old he can have a smartphone when he's 14.
We watched the documentary of Channel 4 with Emma & Matt Willis with him so he understands why he's not having one.
He has a Nokia for calling/texting.

SpryLilacSnake · 22/11/2025 16:54

Way too young, it's so easy for kids to get around social media blocks anyway.

Jollyjoy · 22/11/2025 16:54

I’m glad to see the majority saying way too young. The more of us that say this, the less pressure we/our kids will feel. We all need to remember the internet is a place kids go without us - why the rush to send them out into that world alone.

PegDope · 22/11/2025 16:57

When DD was 10 we got her a phone but all it did was make and receive calls. Not a smartphone and definitely no internet access.

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 22/11/2025 16:59

We will be getting our 8 year old an iPhone 6s (so a brick basically) for her birthday because she will be walking herself to and from school in Yr5 and its safer for us to be able to track her etc. She's not allowed a 'proper' phone until she is in secondary but a cheap brick with trackable qualities are needed sooner than that.

mindutopia · 22/11/2025 17:42

Absolutely no way. My dd wants a pony, but she’s not getting one. 😂
