Present for 6 year old obsessed with app logos

My 6 year old child is autistic and is current special interest is app logos. He makes them using shapes (like a paint app) on his kindle and draws them on paper every opportunity he gets. He knows the history of each logo and what era a certain logo is from. The special interest is deep!!

We celebrate and lean into his special interests whenever we can. However, he’s got it in his head that he’s getting a mobile phone for Christmas. This is all connected to app logos. For obvious reasons we don’t want to get him a phone.

I have seen mp3 players with good reviews for children where we can have parental settings such as this one https://amzn.eu/d/g5gw2c6
but I’m not sure how they would differ from a phone. We wouldn’t allow messaging apps etc. He doesn’t even want to sign in to apps. He just likes the logos and moving them around the screen.

Any ideas please? Does anyone have one of the mp3 players like the one above? Or any bright ideas that wouldn’t ruin Christmas for him?

Thanks in advance

That is not where I was expecting your post to go! I developed a bit of a logo interest as a child (not apps obv am far too ancient !) & remember drawing a quiz sheet for school Blush
I was going to suggest I think there may be a logos quiz game.
my kids both have an Amazon tablet & I think that has icons that can be moved. Parental controls are good.

I wouldn't bother with the mp3
Logo quiz games or cushions
Print logos off and put into a booklet/scrapbook with info etc

If either of you have a laptop he could have a go moving the icons around on desktop or his kindle and maybe a paid paint app or canva or something
A drawing tablet?

You could give him a basic smartphone that's completely locked down but has several logo quiz games loaded into it.

But that would require you to be very on top of the parental controls before handing it over. It's doable though.

Or how about the Logo board game, which has lots of cards with logos on? He doesn't have to even play the game as per their rules, he can just sort and lay out and re-sort the cards to his little heart's content 😍

Thanks all. We have the logo based games, books and a scrapbook of logos (it’s been a special interest over a birthday also!) But it is the phone idea he has in his head and due to his rigid thought processes it is proving rather challenging to find an alternative!

What about one of the old iPod touch handsets? They're not a phone but look like one, and I'm pretty sure you could download the apps for him and manage it closely?

I don't imagine they're still being made but you could pick one up second hand:

Would a small tablet pass the test? We have a pretty basic Samsung, and I have the children's accounts set to only allow specific apps, so fairly easy to lock down. But it still might have more uses for him beyond rearranging the logos.
