Hi folks

Wonder if someone would be able to answer a wee question for me.

Hoping to do my HNC in September (dependant on exam result due August)have been awarded my loan too so ball rolling.

Thing is at the moment we are claining income support therefore get our rent paid, where does that leave me when i return to study?

Do I then have to pay rent?

Hope you can help

from my own experience doing a degree as a single parent and claiming income support, when I got my student loan I no longer got IS but still had a large percentage of my rent paid by housing benefit. It took a bit of time for all the benefits to be organised but found I was better off with my loan than on IS. Good luck with it all!

Thanks hun

I kinda thought we would loose IS just panicked a bit thinking how are we too manage on the loan and feed and clothe the 5 of us

Will be worth it in the end though

So did u pass your degree then? what did u study?

waiting for my results to come in July..slightly nervous!did an English degree, took me 4 years in the end cos I got married and had a baby in between!have you applied for dependent adults grant?we got that when I moved in with my (now) dh and that added another £2000 onto the loan that didn't have to be paid back. Also the place where you'll be studying should have an access fund which allows them to allot money to the students who need financial help, again doesn't have to be paid back,my uni was incredibly helpful so it is worth talking to them.

On my SAAS award notice it has a dependants grant but I thought that was for the kids.

I'm hoping I will be able to apply to the hardship fund at college again they gave me £72 a month towards my rent this yr when I was on a bursary so fingers crossed

Fingers crossed for your results hun you must be counting the weeks till the come in now The waiting is the worst part for me!!!
