Brushing teeth - what age do they do it themselves without reminders?

What age do kids brush their teeth morning and evening without you constantly nagging them? DD is 11 now and I’m so fed up of constantly telling her to do it.

Never. A lot of kids will avoid it if they can so it’s our job as parents to make sure they do it. I stood in the bathroom with mine until they were at least 10 as one of my dc doesn’t have enamel on their teeth and so his teeth were far more susceptible to decay. I felt it was my duty to make sure he had good dental hygiene as he was a child and couldn’t make that decision himself. My SIL let her youngest do her own teeth from 4 years old and by time she was 6 she had two fillings, the dentist was not happy and gave my sil a stern talking to. Both my kids are now in their mid/ twenties and don’t have any fillings.

My eldest is 11 and I still do both their teeth in the evening. No way I would trust that it would get done properly otherwise. I used to skip brushing my teeth all the time at that age and bitterly regret it now I pay my own dentist bills.

Never! 😭😭😭 I got fed up when son was 10 ish and told him he was responsible and his teeth are dreadful! Took him to the dentist until Covid hit (he was 16 and now I just ask him if he wants an appt booking - no way am I going with him! I used to nag him even after the age of 10 but it made no difference. I think I’ll be brushing the youngest two’s until they turn 18!

Eldest is 13 and I still have to tell him to go upstairs and brush his teeth in the morning.

I'm hoping by the time they move out and I'm not there to remind them every time...
Maybe when they have their first proper girl/boyfriend?
