FF baby not gaining weight at 12 weeks old.

Hi all. Baby is coming up for 12 weeks old and the HV has expressed concern at her lack of weight gain. She was born on the 55th centile and has dropped to the 20th. She’s slowly dropped down every time we’ve had her weighed.

She’s FF and just doesn’t seem that bothered by milk! She’ll occasionally cry for another milk a couple of hours after being fed, but I’m pretty sure we could probably go for 4/5 hours some days without her crying for milk (I don’t let it go this long though).

She has a last feed at about 10:30pm and will stay asleep until 7 but doesn’t even seem hungry upon waking. She might have 2-3oz at 7:30am?

She did have a tongue tie which has been snipped but still doesn’t have a great latch on her bottle (tried lots of different bottles and teats but she seems best on dr browns). These seem to have massively reduced her silent reflux symptoms too, but I have noticed she still does squirm a little sometimes while feeding so I think the reflux is still there.

She’s never sick, so that’s not an issue.

On average, I think she may drink approx 18oz-22oz per day.

Any ideas on what could be “wrong”? HV says we are looking at a paediatrician referral if she hasn’t come up the centiles a little in a couple of weeks.

I would talk to the GP about treatment for the silent reflux. If feeding is causing discomfort they won't want to feed

Have you spoken to the GP?

This must be a worry for you but the HV is clearly monitoring the situation. Not gaining weight at this age could be caused by many things, so it’s a bit pointless to speculate. In your shoes I would push for a paediatrician referral as soon as possible. There’s no point seeing the GP, your baby needs to be seen by a specialist.

Well the GP may be able to put in a referral now rather than the few more weeks the health visitor wants to wait.
