Cosleeping, horrible cough

I cosleep with my 14 month old. We've only been doing for 6 weeks. I spent the first year of his life trying to convince him to sleep independently and he just won't. Cosleeping was going well until he brought home a horrible bug. He's better but now I have it and I have this horrible, flemmy, chesty cough all night....so I can't sleep with him, I tried and it keeps waking him up, he wakes at the faintest sound anyway.
.
So he's next door screaming his head off in his dad's arms. He has not taken this well, we all barely got any sleep. This cough of mine is going to take days if not weeks to clear....what do I do? I feel so horrible and guilty.

Lemsip / lozenges don't help, the cough is from deep inside my chest.

Only suggestion i have is to keep your head as elevated as possible as lying flat makes it worse. Commiserations and get well soon

We had this this year and it was awful. Get to the GP quickly and get them to do a sample we are need antibiotics to get over it.

Sounds like you might have a chest infection. Please phone the GP and if they can’t see you ring 111.

As for your DS, could you sleep somewhere else and DH and DS sleep together?

If it was me and he is awake all night crying because he wants to be with you, I would just continue co sleeping. If your cough keeps him awake then it doesn’t sound like he’d be getting any less sleep than in another room without you, but at least he’d be calmer. He might get used to the cough and sleep through it. I’m currently in the same boat cosleeping and unwell and coughing and my son sleeps through it mostly.
