4.5m unwell, cold & cough, having to co sleep!

This is my second baby & im not a co sleeper, always been a fan of keeping the baby in next to me or cot.
my new 4.5mo old has been pretty good in the next to me - not for day naps, just overnight sleep but has caught a heavy cold from my lovely 3yo who is also very snotty and coughy.
however since Monday when my littlest started exhibiting symptoms he will not go in the next to me at night. He falls asleep so deeply in arms but upon transfer will cough and get upset or sniff and swallow snot and get upset. We are now on day 4, hoping to see an improvement soon, but he’s been sleeping pretty well in the big bed (safe sleep!) even when he coughs he seems to realise I’m there and settle quickly which is what we want as we also don’t want my 3yo waking!

am I going to struggle to get my baby back in to the next to me once this cold is over?? Or is it a case of get as much sleep as possible for everyone and once he’s better all will be ok? 😅

(side note Altho baby is congested with a cough there is no fever, eating normal with plenty dirty and wet nappies, will continue to monitor)

It takes a few nights to get them back into the normal routine when they are better but if they’re a good sleeper it’s fairly easy

I’m always confused by this sleeping separate…if that was meant to be the case then why would our babies react the way they do to being separated. To make it clear I’m not a co-sleeper well I was like from 2am in the morning for my last baby. But in hindsight I regret not co-sleeping with my babies
