18 month sleep regression, help!

Looking for advice from fellow parents. My 18 month old has literally changed overnight. Before he slept through the night and I would very rarely go in to give him his dummy.

Overnight this has changed. I put him in his cot and he will fall asleep without me in the room, however he is now waking every two hours and will scream/cry if I'm not in the room while he falls back to sleep.

The trouble is sometimes I'm sitting there for 30mins plus and I also have a 4 month old who is waking every 2 hours as well.

Any advice on how you manage this and what worked? I don't mind if it's just a phase but I really don't want to get into the habit of staying in the room until he falls back to sleep. Equally I don't want to let him cry it out as it breaks my heart.

I am truly exhausted and cannot keep surviving on three hours sleep a night.

Sounds like it could be night terrors. Have a google. My DD had them at that age after being a brilliant sleeper. I ended up having to time how long after sleep she had them and wake her slightly just beforehand. Only took a few night to “reset” her.
